I want to start a business touching up people's home photos. For example, lightening the pictures, sharper contrasts, certain special effects (B&W, sepia, specific color, soft focus, blur, remove acne/birthmarks, etc.), and so on. My business will be mostly run online - they email me the pictures, tell me what they want done, I do it and email it back to them. Or, for an extra fee, I can print it out on high-quality photo paper and mail it to them. I'm even offering the first few people who contact me everything free, just so I can show what I can do. I would love to get T1 or Covad speed Internet. That would be nice! But I don't need it. I go to coffee shops and use wi-fi. Or I use my aircard from my cell phone company. So... I am a Danish student on a exchange program in Seattle area. In this school district they have mandatory community service. In Denmark where I come from community service is punishment for crimes only, because we pay more than half our income in taxes and therefore there is no demand for community service at all. As ordinary citizens we should involve ourselves with concerns of other citizens. It is what we pay the state to take care of. I cannot explain back home why it is necessary to participate in something which makes it look like I have broken the law in a severe matter (small crimes are settled with fines. It is considered so humiliating to work for free, that we are talking serious crimes before community service comes into question). I have talked long and hard with my parents and we got assured that no photos would come out otherwise they would pull me so my reputation back home would not be destroyed. So I participated but one of the other students posted a photo online where I can be seen with some other my classmates. I am heartbroken and they don't understand what kind of damaging effect it can have on my future. Is there any way to have this photo removed? Just the hint that I have worked for free would make people believe that I have a felony on my record and then I will be unable to get a job. more

for some reason i feel that some of my friends are sort of intimidated by me (been friends for a year an a half now). they seem to get along with people who are 'like' them but they seem to be a little awkward around me sometimes (because we're so different). for example if we were sitting and talking at a table and there are people who are like them sitting, they will often ignore me and talk to them instead of conversating with me. even though this is the case they still want to be my friends and enjoy hanging out with me most of the time. is it normal for newfound friends to do that? over time will they 'fully' appreciate me for who I am? *FYI, my friends are conservative (socially), consciencious, and aware of their actions and what they say. I tend to be more of a liberal person, open to ideas, free spirited, the person in the party who would drink the most and end up having x-rated photos posted online haha. ONE IMPORTANT THING...we talk about way different topics. They are more of shallow talkers, topics such as cars, "jackass" antics, what they did over the weekend, and jokes. HOWEVER, i tend to be witty and and knowledgeable about sophisticated topics (politics, world-perspective, music) and occasionally I will chat about TV shows with my friends JUST BECAUSE there isnt anything else we can talk about (of course, because of our personality differences). more

I'm considering buying a D90, because the photos I have seen posted online taken with the D90 all look really nice. The problem is, in this day and age when photoshop is a common tool for photographers, I don't know how much of it is the camera and how much of it is editing. So for you D90 users, would you mind taking a couple of photos from your camera that are uploaded just as they were shot? No editing/postprocessing. Also, please no photos using flash, studio lighting, reflectors, etc. I want to see what this camera can do all by itself! No tools but you and the camera! Please tell me what kind of lens you used and the settings (aperture, ISO, etc) for the photo as well. This would be a huge help to me in deciding whether or not to purchase this camera. Anything else you want to tell me about the camera would be great, too. Also for non-D90 photographers, feel free to talk up your camera and tell me why it's better. :-) Post some images if you like, too, but please follow the same critera as listed above. I need advice! Please help...this is the background to help you out: I started a business (a publishing company) a year ago. It started from my living room, it's still small. I work with young teen writers. Anyways, when I first started out I was selling basic apparel using online shops (yikes...) and what not. One of my contributors always emailed me asking basic questions and requesting certain products to be created...I said good idea, but not within our budget. She emailed me about a month ago and asked 'can I be something? like you're the senior editor and founder, and 'bob' is the director of communications...can I have a title?' She is 15 years old. She's a writer but she's 15 and unable to offer me any specific skill outside of that. I told her such a thing that she needs to graduate from highschool and post-secondary school like we have and then apply what she learns. I thought she understood. Then she started a free website using my company name as her web address.(like mycompanyname.freesite) She didn't tell me this, I just stumbled upon it finding an incoming link. I asked her about it and she said she wanted to help promote it. The site is not neat which stamps on my company. I told her the ways she could promote without using the website she created. Telling her friends. She kept the site and takes photos and text off of my blog. Now she is asking me to give her designs to put on tees, and to make certain designs for her to sell to her friends. She is also talking to people about my company like she is an employee and having them email her. She asked me to write a 300 word write up for her newspaper, to start a facebook page, things that are my responsibility. And she says 'we should' not 'I should' (as in directing to me, it's as if she thinks she works for me) She even asked me to advertise her blog (with my company name) on my website. She is young and I think she is a tad bored, and not taking what she is a part of seriously. I dont' think she understands she contributes work to my company. This may have been my mistake for accepting her as a contributor in the first place and that I suck with being... approachable. However it seems to me she thinks I just woke up and tossed out an idea and she can just use it. i put hard work into all of this. How do I tell her that this is serious, the works and images she's taking are copyrighted? I'm putting together an online art project to emphasize the lives of Gaza residents being real lives, and not just numbers. If you have a family member who has been wounded or killed in the Gaza conflict and would like their story told, would you be able to email 2-4 photos of them before the current conflict, and 1 of them since the current conflict, if you have one, or if you don't, what their injuries are? If they are adults, it would be preferable if you could send at least one of them as a young child. The site will be comment free, so there will be no disrespectful things posted, and will consist of a slide show, one page dedicated to a short photo story of each person. You can chose to give their first names, or ages, or another chosen title. It would be nice if you could also provide a couple of lines about them. On this one site, this girl emailed me a flirt and said to email her back and we could chat. Of course, she had no photo which I specifically ask for in my profile. It said that she smokes and I don't want to be around smokers because I've been smoke free for a few months and want to stay that way. Dating someone that smoked would be especially difficult. Anyway, it said for her body type: fit/athletic. So, I shot her back an email that said, "You consider yourself fit/athletic and you smoke? That's sort of a catch 22." One of my absolute obsessions is portrait retouching. I spend a lot of time helping people learn photoshop and retouch their photos on various online communities, and in my spare time I would actually love to start working for a photographer to help with their photography post-production. My question is, how on earth do you get a position like this? Essentially what I'd love to do is just be handed gigs of RAW files and spend my free time making them look great, but most traditional photography assistant positions are either for help on shoots or shooter smaller gigs.
